10 Ways to Improve Your Self-Esteem and Self-Worth with EFT-Tapping
Healthy self-esteem means you recognize your value without needing constant reassurance or others' approval. But when your sense of self is unstable, minor criticisms, rejections, or comparisons can quickly undermine your well-being.
If you feel insecure around certain people, you people-please, strive for perfection, or compare your life negatively to someone else's, you can change these patterns.
Maybe you've tried therapy, affirmations, meditation, workshops, courses, or religion — but your limiting beliefs about yourself still feel stuck like glue. Beneath the surface are old core beliefs, such as: “I'm not good enough. It's not safe for me to shine. I have to prove myself before I'm worthy.” These beliefs get stored in the body and nervous system as if they're true — and for some people, they can't be changed through the conscious mind alone.
The beliefs and conclusions you made about yourself and life started early on and often through trauma. These need to be addressed and healed through the nervous system and in the body as well as the mind.

Be Aware of How You Speak to Yourself
Your inner dialogue reveals a lot about how you see yourself. Do you call yourself stupid over a mistake? If someone else succeeds, do you compare yourself as less than them, or feel envious?
Start by noticing what you say to yourself during the day, especially in difficult moments. Be curious about where that voice came from. A harsh inner critic is usually a learned habit — and recognizing that is the first step to questioning whether it's actually true.
-
Separate the Experience From the Meaning
Our brains instantly assign meaning to painful events: rejection becomes “I'm not worth loving”; criticism becomes "I'm not good enough”; being overlooked means “I don’t matter”. These beliefs can outlive their original cause if you never had the opportunity to heal them. Learning how to release limiting beliefs with Matrix Reimprinting using EFT helps heal and transform the original event and the negative beliefs you learned at the time — freeing you to see the truth in the present rather than staying trapped by an old pattern of thinking.
Rick Hanson, Ph.D, author of Buddha's Brain, said, "The brain is like Velcro for negative experiences, but Teflon for positive ones." Struggling with limiting beliefs is universal, not a personal failing.

Recognize When Achievement Measures Your Worth
Achievement is deeply satisfying, but be aware if you use it to prove you're finally good enough— when self-worth depends on the next promotion or milestone, the goalpost keeps moving because the underlying belief hasn't changed. Enjoy your accomplishments, and do the internal work needed to understand and know you are intrinsically worthy, whether you are achieving success or not.
-
Notice How Much Power You Give Other People
Approval feels good, but when our self-worth is fragile, others' reactions can just as easily undermine it — a shift in someone's mood can send you searching for what you did wrong, even when nothing happened. Building real self-worth means valuing your own goals and path, not because others approve, but because they matter to you.
-
Understand Why You People-Please
Rather than treating people-pleasing as a habit to simply stop, get curious about what it protects you from — often a fear of conflict, rejection, or loss of belonging.
This explains why trying to “stop people-pleasing” can be much harder than expected. In the past, you may have learned that keeping other people happy helped you survive. This ingrained survival habit can change when you address the root causes and heal them through the energetic nervous system, so the brain/body connection knows the past isn't the present.
When you feel safe letting go of old patterns, it's much easier to see the real self—no longer living in survival or stuck in old negative habits. That real self is valuable and worthy. We each bring unique gifts and talents to the world. We don't have to fit into a cookie-cutter life to be acceptable.
-
Practice Boundaries, Even When Guilt Appears
Guilt can appear simply because you've stepped outside a familiar role — not because you've done something wrong. Healthy self-worth creates space for you to get your needs met. You can’t help others if you cannot take care of your needs first— otherwise, you risk burnout, overgiving, or resentment.
Start small: decline one low-stakes request this week, or delay your "yes" by a day instead of answering on the spot. Notice whether the guilt passes and whether the relationship survives. If it creates conflict and pushback, consider whether this is a healthy relationship for you.
Each boundary becomes an opportunity to show yourself that your time, energy, preferences, and needs deserve consideration too. Learn more about setting healthy boundaries here:

Get Curious About Perfectionism
High standards often mask a deeper fear — of criticism, shame, or rejection. Perfection can't provide lasting security; there's always another detail to improve. When you heal the underlying fear, you see that you're worthy simply because you're you — mistakes and all.
-
Use Comparison as Information
Comparison can be a positive learning experience. It shows you what's possible for you and can help you improve your work. Someone else's success now doesn't mean you won't have your own later.
If someone else's success triggers envy instead, that's an invitation to look inward. When you recognize the belief beneath the reaction, you can work with that belief instead of fighting the comparison itself.
-
Work With the Feelings Behind Your Beliefs
You may know intellectually that you're worthy, yet an old belief can still feel true in your body. That gap between knowing and feeling matters — positive thoughts alone often can't reach the part of you holding a traumatic imprint. The combination of EFT tapping and my other modalities help heal the root cause of your beliefs. This gives you the freedom to let go of thoughts and beliefs that no longer serve you and replace them with the truth. The truth that you matter and are worthy of living a full and rewarding life.

Look at Where Your Story Began
Ask yourself: when did you first believe you weren't good enough — or that you had to be useful, quiet, or perfect to be accepted? The answer often traces back to childhood, a difficult relationship, or an old experience of criticism or rejection.
Building Self-Esteem
Confidence can vary by situation — capable at work, insecure in relationships. Even successful people will sabotage their success or turn to addictions to calm their nervous system in an attempt to keep those negative beliefs at bay. Some burn out from overworking to keep people from discovering their true feelings of unworthiness. When you know your value, you feel more secure in your worth, no matter what happens in a given day. Difficult moments pass, and a healthy sense of self-worth means knowing you're strong enough to move through them.
